Very impressed with Dr Shen and his staff..Would definitely recommend him if you need to have back surgery...Appreciated the fact that he took the time to personally call me to make sure I was doing ok...Thank you Dr Shen for everything...
Dr. Shen was awesome. I am pain free after being able to walk no more than 20-30 yards without stopping and sitting or bending. He was able to do surgery without fusion. Loved his bed side manner. Called me on Sunday to check on him. His staff was great. Nurse was available to answer questions. Highly recommend.
I had a spine surgery in Dec. of 2012. 6 months later the hardware he put inside me fell apart..one of the two titanium screws broke in half and I had complained of right thigh numbness and pain from the first post op visit. He just kept telling me it would go away...be patient....3 1/2 years later I still have the same pain...lumbar plexus traction injury. He even wrote it in his office notes. I had to have a second surgery (not by him of course) and the hardware that fell apart in me was all taken out and now I have 2 rods, 10 1/2 screws, pins, cage and I am in worse shape than before the original surgery. How I wish 12/20/12 NEVER happened. Worst decision of my life and I had felt SO lucky to have such a wonderful doctor. Boy, was I ever wrong!!!
I hope that if you are reading this, and have not had surgery yet at the hands of Dr. Shen...you'll think twice and find out as much info as you can on any surgeon that touches you.
Dr. Shen totally ignored my after surgery misery, totally dismissive of my complaints...just kept telling me the pain will go away. I have heard of horror stories, but never thought I'd be part of one. I guess I can be happy that at least I am walking.......He only put one rod and two titanium screws in y back. The one screw was not "screwed in" all the way....4cm off...not a big deal he said....oh really???? I ended up having to go to NYC because no doctor up here, after seeing me wanted to fix his mistake. They all agreed that I needed to have a second surgery, but "Sorry, I can't help you" That's what I ran into.
Just because you're on t.v., on billboards, in articles does not mean you are a great surgeon...you just have the money for the ads from people like me that you "ruined"
A master of his craft. Just had surgery yesterday. He, along with his staff went above and beyond to be sure i felt comfortable and safe. People come from all over thr world to see Dr Shen. If you need spine surgery he is worth the trip. This is the first day my pain level is low in over a year.
After surgery I was still in pain he basically acted like I was lying. I eventually got frustrated and mentioned malpractice and he "moved my care on" and made me sound like a drug addict in my records because he didn't believe that I was still in pain. Neurosurgeon said shen most likely damaged my nerve root during surgery.
